COACHING AND WORKSHOPS

Athena coaches people one-on-one about their lives, their work, and their creativity. She works with groups of all sizes through powerful workshops that inspire and challenge participants to change the way they think and to see and embrace new possibilities for their lives. Through her coaching and workshops, Athena partners with individuals, teams, and organizations to create practical paths to transformation and success.

Athena has designed curricula and taught workshops in:

  • Leadership and team-building
  • Living your life dreams
  • Discovering your true work
  • Her workshop clients include AutoDesk, Kaiser Permanente, Interep Radio, Cisco Systems, Dolce Hayes Mansion, Tuesday's Children, and the Business Council for Peace. Athena has also co-led workshops at the Omega Institute in New York, the New York Open Center, Mount Madonna Retreat Center, and the Esalen Institute in California.

    Corporate Background

    Athena had a career in marketing communications planning and strategy for 20 years with leading corporations including: Xerox Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Sun Microsystems, Fuji Xerox Corporation, 3Com, BankAmerica, McCann-Erickson, and Miller-Huber Relationship Marketing.

     

    Peace-building work

    Athena’s volunteer work focuses on peace-building abroad and bringing joy to people who are facing difficult times here in the United States. She has co-produced many events, including:

    • The Mystical Arts of Tibet concert and sand mandala demonstration with the Drepung Loseling Monks of India at the Palace of Fine Arts and the Exploritorium in San Francisco in 1993
    • The Peacemaking Conference with the Dalai Lama in San Francisco in 1997
    • The Building Bridges benefit and silent auction in San Francisco in 2001,  in response to 9/11 terror attacks, with proceeds going to children effected by the tragedy in the US, Afghanistan and the Middle East.
    • A cultural event and fundraiser for Women for Women International in Berkeley, California in 2004
    • The annual Gifts from the Heart program that provides Christmas presents to homeless people and families who are in difficult economic circumstances since 2001.

    In addition, Athena is a member of the Executive Council of the Business Council for Peace where she is actively involved in programs to help Afghan and Iraqi business women create sustainable businesses. As part of this program she mentors a young Afghan woman who lives in Kandahar. 

    Education

    • Bachelors degree in International Politics from UCLA, 1980
    • MBA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, 1984
    • The Four-fold Way, a three-year program on leadership and communication taught by Angeles Arrien, cultural anthropologist. 1998-2001
    • Certification to teach Creativity in Business course, developed at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, 2003
    • Coaching and Leadership training at the Coaches Training Institute, 2003-2005.
